We are looking at the 8500 cards today, so let's keep focus on that one. It's one of the most affordable DirectX 10 hardware on the market. The primary difference between GeForce 8 and GeForce 7 families is the adoption of DirectX 10 on the GeForce 8 family. This means they will support the next generation of games to be released this year. Although in all honestly, you really can't play any DX10 game with this kind of budget card though.

The GPU on this card is labelled G86 (GeForce 8500 GT) and is based on a 80nm fabrication process. Geek facts; it has 210 million transistors, 16 stream processors and makes use of 128-bit interface to transport data over it's gDDR2 memory.
Where a GeForce 8800 GTS has 96 shader cores and a 8600 GT has 32 (which already is too little) the 8500GT has 16 stream processors. Much like it's bigger 8600 brother, the 8500 has to deal with it's memory bandwidth over a 128-bit memory bus.
Inside the colorful and stylish box (with apparently a dragon fighting theme) we find a lovely blue colored graphics card with bundled a manual, driver CD and SVIDEO cable. Honestly... that's it. Well, we are moving in the budget market here so that's okay I guess.

Using the latest Ubuntu 13.10 and trying to get the proprietary drivers for my GeForce 8500 GT. But it doesn't show in the Additional settings. It's blank. Am I doing something wrong or should I download it from the Nvidia homepage? How do I install it? Step by step would be awesome for me as a non-geek.
As with any graphics card installation, no special tools are required. Depending on your case, the only tool you may need is a Phillips screw driver. If your case utilizes tool-less technology, then obviously you won't need any tools. Personally, I always secure add ons with screws, as this ensures a solid connection. The first thing you will want to do is unplug your computer from your surge protector or duplex wall plug. After that, pull off the case side, disconnect the external power cord (if it has one) from the old graphics card, and pull it out of its slot. Next, you will want to find the PCI-E slot and plug the PNY 8500GT 512MB PCIe into it. Carefully snap it into place and secure it in. Don't worry about plugging the external power into the PNY 8500GT 512MB PCIe; it doesn't have this feature. Replace the case side and then connect your monitor to the DVI or VGA outlet at the back of your case.
Installing the drivers is easy. Turn your computer on and place the VGA Driver CD that came with the graphics card into the CD-ROM drive. After a few seconds, the main menu appears and simply follow the on-screen instructions.
Click on "Install Drivers" and the next screen you will see is the Windows XP Drivers Notice - click "Install Windows XP Drivers". The next screen will ask you to choose 32-bit or 64-bit. Choose the one you have. Don't worry about the next screen you see. What it's saying is that Windows XP is not sure if it is compatible with the operating system (it is). Click "Continue Anyway" and your computer will now chug along doing its thing and then will finally ask you to restart, so go ahead and do so (don't forget to go to PNY's website and download the latest drivers).

We were unable to find drivers for your product. Try manually selecting your operating system. If your operating system is not listed then HP may not provide driver support for your product with that operating system.
My Optiplex 760 won't let me download any other types of Graphic Drivers, I tried to download Nividia and Intel Graphic(which i would be fine with both)and When i try to download both it says something around the lines "Nividia can't find supported device" or something like that. You then extract the contents of the file in that folder using 7zip. Once this is done you Right Click on any yellow ! in device manager and say UPDATE From my pc instead of from the internet to install the driver.
Intel has no support, but intel does not run the PNP servers at MS, that is only done by MS, and uses dell driver, not intel. ok? not sure you GPU problems , why not state the problem first then what cures failed.
w10 magic, if no full driver is found w10 loads, MBDA, I right click that driver (internet up) and it loads the MS driver now. on all Q41 and Q43 ive tired, even Q31 works ! (but will have bugs , you may never see)
I installed 22.04 a couple of weeks ago on my MSI GL73 9RCX with the hybrid NVIDIA setup. My external monitor has been flaky ever since. By flaky I mean the monitor goes completely black for a few seconds at a time. How often and how long it remeains out seems to vary randomly. I tried multiple versions of the NVIDIA driver they all have the same issue. I replaced the Displayport cable with a new certified 8k cable. I tired different frequencies for the display, and different resolutions.None of these settings fixes the issue. The only way to have a stable external 4k monitor is to put the driver in Intel mode, which kinda sucks. The exact same setup was stable under Ubuntu 21.10 with no special configuration.
Installed Ubuntu 22.04 on two machines with nVidia graphic card by downloading the drivers during install. No issues encountered on my laptopl Dell XPS 15 7590. Not the same on my self built Desktop where after restart I get the infamous black screen of death, not even able to repair / rescue install with boot repair. The issue was present with the previous install of 20.04 when selecting the NVIDIA legacy drivers after install, but was solved when uploading them during the installation. Tried two times with 22.04 and 510 proprietary tested drivers and both time I got the black screen after retart witn only cursor blinking after some lines of codes are displayed. Now reinstalled with the Nouveau driver.
Sorry, I cannot.It is the third time I install 22.04 on this machine as the previous installs gave me the black screen at reboot.I am now using the Nouveau driver and have rebooted multiple times already.
